Growth like this: 📈
I know it feels productive to put yourself down when you haven’t been keeping your word to yourself. Somehow, punishing yourself for being a very bad, awful person for not checking off all the tasks on your to-do list feels, in itself, like a very productive thing. After all, how will you ever get yourself to move if you don’t whip yourself into action? If that inner voice wasn’t so biting, you’d be on the couch every single day eating cheetos until your days end!
Is it working? Chances are you walk around with that nail-biting anxiety all day hoping that energy will get you to move already. What actually happens? You feel awful with nothing to show for it.
Sure sure sure. Sometimes it works enough to give you a running start. But how long does it last? And how often does it really work?
I know it sounds ass backwards to think that being nice to yourself will get you to take those actions you really wish you’d act on already. Consider this: if the only thing that’s actually getting you to take the next step is your ambition, what would it be like not to be beaten back by your own self-flagellation?
📈A line graph of growth in the shape of a checkmark. 🙌
Give it a shot this week. Forward motion without all the excessive backhanded comments from your doubts. You’ll carry yourself like you just won first place in your 3rd grade spelling bee.
We could all use some of that energy walking into 2024, amiright?
