You want the antidote to feeling trapped? Dream in detail.
When you envision your escape with exacting precision, it’s impossible for you to remain in the static land of inaction. Because when you’re able to engage all your senses to the effort of extricating yourself from your current situation, your body naturally follows. You’ll wonder how you miraculously were able to pull yourself out of your disillusion. And as you’re moving the pieces toward your new and bright future, you’ll ask yourself how you even got yourself motivated to do so. The secret isn’t in your plans or your goals or your ambitions: it’s in the dreaming.
Oh I know, it seems like a lot of fluff. What do dreams do except inflate your hopes and therefore your disappointments? But that’s how you disappoint yourself again and again, year after year, my friend. It’s not the dreaming that does that. It’s feeling the regard for yourself and your greatest desires ascend to a higher level - and ignoring them in favor of a more “practical” point of view.
But what’s practical about dragging yourself out of bed into a work environment that makes you want to gouge your eyes out every day? Living and breathing work-work-work even during your precious time off? Your pretty things and everyday conveniences can only comfort you so much. And I’ll tell you this much - half your so-called needs will disappear once you’ve found your way. Most of what you long for at the moment are only things you *think* you need in order to survive the life you’ve chosen. Step onto the path that leads to the life you actually desire, and watch as the minutiae fades away.
Only the essential will come into view. And man if it isn’t easier to create exactly what you want when you know exactly what that is.
I’m happy to tell you more when you join me for our Sunday Scaries Support Group on Sunday, January 14th at 7 pm EST. Subscribe to my email list to get the links to our weekly Zoom calls. You need someone in your life who’s willing to walk down that murky, mysterious road with you. It just so happens that it’s my favorite.
